The Vermont Places You Need to See

Tucked away in New England is Vermont, home to stunning scenery, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, and a variety of cultural opportunities through its many museums, galleries, and events that are present year-round.

If you’re in the area looking at Burlington houses for sale, check out these sought-after things to see and do.

Stowe

Stowe is a popular destination for avid skiers. Located east of Burlington, it has 116 trails to take on.

Cross country skiers can enjoy both groomed trails and backcountry terrain. You can take a spin around the ice rink or relax in the resort’s spa after a cool day outside.

In the summer you can hop aboard the Gondola Skyride to view the lush greenery from the top of Mount Mansfield or take to the indoor rock-climbing wall inside the resort’s adventure center.

Bennington Battle Monument, Bennington

This is the tallest structure in the state and its most visited historic site.

The over 300-foot obelisk commemorates the Revolutionary War Battle that was a major strategic success and is considered part of the turning point of the war for America.

You can climb to the top for incredible views or check out one of the many reenactments and celebrations held throughout the year.

Lake Champlain

The Lake Champlain region is full of everything from historic sites to scenic trails, fun festivals and shopping centers.

Explore the LaChute Riverwalk Trail or Ausable Chasm. Discover history through the Ticonderoga and Crown Point forts, as well as one of the many museums that house war-era relics.

Spend a day browsing modern boutiques and stores that have been around for decades or take in a show at the historical Depot Theatre.

Ben & Jerry’s Factory Tour, Waterbury

Those with a sweet tooth will love this behind-the-scenes look at the frozen treats that started in Waterbury.

Take a tour to learn about how the ice cream is made and more of the brand’s socially conscious efforts and mission.

Cabot Creamery Visitor Center, Waterbury

While you’re thinking about food, hop over to the place where some of the best dairy products out there are made.

Cabot is a staple in the state, and this visitor center affords a look at how the cheese is made as well as a chance to sample several kinds of cheese, dips, and other products.

Burlington Bike Path

Peddle your way through what was once the Central Vermont Railway that crosses through area beaches and parks.

From here you can get views of the Adirondacks and Lake Champlain. Also known as the Greenway, these eight miles of pavement is also fit for runners and walkers. It’s part of the longer Island Line Trail and has a seasonal bike ferry that allows cyclists to continue riding into the islands.

Church Street Marketplace, Burlington

This award-winning open-air mall in downtown Burlington has over 100 places to dine and shop.

You’ll also see historical architecture, street performers, and live music, and may even stumble upon a festival depending on the time of year.
